Veg-O-Fortress

The Veg-O-Fortress

The Veg-O-Fortress (also sometimes spelled "Veg-o-Fortress"), also known as the Volcano Veg-O Fortress, It was a giant Badnik-producing factory-like lair built atop on the barren volcano mountain known as Mount Mobius by the egomaniacal Dr. Robotnik with his Veg-O-Machine built inside as the core of this mechanized citadel for his evil plot of conquering Planet Mobius, until however, the fortress itself was eventually destroyed by Sonic the Hedgehog, and it sunk into the ocean. It serves as the main setting of Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball/Sonic Spinball.

Description[]

It is a large, grayish machine-like tower that covers most, if not all, of the pristine Mount Mobius volcano. The tower's lower-to-middle exterior front wall features a checkerboard pattern. There are also several tubes, pipes and machineries with it that connect to the sea nearby, polluting it. The upper part of the fortress above its front wall features Dr. Robotnik's iconic mustachioed face built onto the exterior design of the mad doctor's spacefaring escape ship.

The Veg-O-Fortress features artillery cannons that shoot laser blasts at any intruder approaching from the sky. Inside of it, the lair itself is also guarded by several Badniks, as well as a complex security system called the "Pinball Defense System". A multitude of fabled Chaos Emeralds are also in place throughout the layout of the Veg-O Fortress to keep the very volcano from exploding and making the evil lair go to pieces.

History[]

The evil Doctor Robotnik have recently constructed his brand-new lair, the Veg-O-Fortress, on Mount Mobius, which he planned to use to began robotizing all beings on Planet Mobius with and achieved. Using the lava pumping through the mountain, Robotnik was able to harness the volcanic energies to power the Veg-O-Fortress's generators, charging his Veg-O Machine, although he had to use the fabled Chaos Emeralds his robotic minions somehow successfully acquired to keep the mountain's volcano stable or else it would explode.

Eventually, Sonic and Tails used a a plane to approach Mount Mobius in the middle of the ocean, only for the Veg-O-Fortress's artillery cannons to start firing at them. This caused Sonic to fall onto the sea near Mount Mobius. However, he managed to make his way into the Toxic Caves, the lowest point of the Veg-O-Fortress.

Once he entered, Sonic rose through the twisted Veg-O-Fortress on the inside, collecting the Chaos Emeralds along the way to destabilize Mount Mobius's volcano. Eventually, he also destroyed the Veg-O Machine, which caused the entire fortress to crumble. In an attempt to escape, the frantic Dr. Robotnik tried to use his man-made rocket ship, but Sonic managed to destroy it in mid-flight.

As Sonic and Dr. Robotnik then fell from the sky, Sonic was rescued by Tails in his plane, while the beaten Dr. Robotnik fell into the wrecked remains of the Veg-O-Fortress as Mount Mobius itself sank beneath the waves.

Areas[]

  • Toxic Caves/Toxic Pools: The lowest point of the Veg-O-Fortress. This sewer-like area was here where the industrial wastes were thrown into the sea, polluting it. Three Chaos Emeralds were found here.
  • Lava Powerhouse: The medium point of the Veg-O-Fortress. Here, the lava in Mount Mobius was used to provide energy for the fortress. Three Chaos Emeralds were found here.
  • The Machine: The highest point of the Veg-O-Fortress. This antechamber was here where animals are trapped and turned into Badniks by the Veg-O Machine. 5 Chaos Emeralds were found here.
  • Showdown/Final Showdown: A ship located on the top of the Veg-O-Fortress used as an escape alternative by Dr. Robotnik. 5 Chaos Emeralds were found here.

In Other Media[]

Dr. Robotnik's Pinball Fortress appears in the episode Attack on Pinball Fortress, a loose adaptation of Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball. The Pinball Fortress is based upon the Pinball Defense System of the video game, though it isn't located on Mt. Mobius. It houses the Toxic Pools and Robotnik's robot, Boss Scorpion.

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic book series by Archie Comics, Mt. Mobius and the Veg-O-Fortress were both featured in Issue #6 as the comic's first videogame adaptation. Sonic located the volcano and blasted his way through the Pinball Defense System while avoiding the many traps, robots and pitcher plants, only to fall for a trap set up by the mad Dr. Robotnik, resulting in him being ejected from the volcano by a hidden spring.

Later, in issues #86 and #87 of Sonic the Hedgehog comics, the brave Sonic's old foe Metal Sonic would incarcerate his best friend Tails within Mt. Mobius as an attempt to exact revenge on the blue hedgehog. As the volcano erupted, Metal Sonic would ultimately save the heroes from the eruption at the cost of his own life.

In Sonic the Comic issue #24's The Sonic Terminator, Part 1. It is said to be the location of Dr. Robotnik's new Badnik Processing Plant, recently dubbed the Veg-O-Fortress, is where the captured Freedom Fighters are soon to be transported there. However, the Freedom Fighters are rescued by Captain Plunder and his pirate gang, and neither the barren Mount Mobius nor the colossal Veg-O-Fortress that was built on ever mentioned again.

  • An alternative Mt. Mobius appears in the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog episode "Big Daddy" where Dr. Robotnik schemed to install his most powerful laser cannon ever constructed on the top of the never-before climbed mountain.
  • In another Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog episode "Attack on Pinball Fortress", which was a loose adaptation of Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball, Doctor Robotnik has a similar pinball-styled stronghold called the Pinball Fortress with a familiar Pinball Defense System-styled structure, though the place is located on Mt.
